Franklin Castle named one of the most haunted homes in the United States

A Supernatural Syndication
|
Story: Nicholas Lovecraft
Only the best of shows are syndicated. Since
syndication first began, only the finest made the cut.
Joining the likes of Buffy, The Office, The Simpsons
and Family Guy - Supernatural become the next show
of legend. Nationally airing at 10AM weekdays on
TNT, an entire new world will experience the magic of
Supernatural.
Before the CW (Now the UPN) even knew what a hit
they had on their hands, OSH championed this
original genius. To my death I will state for the record
that neither my childhood experiences with Eric Kripke
or his Toledo roots persuaded my feelings and
critique of the show. It is simply the story itself that won
myself and millions of others over. A solid storyline,
personable characters and great production have
made Supernatural the icon it has become.
Now in only its fourth season it will be immortalized in
the golden halls of cable/satelite TV. But one has to
wonder how this may affect future seasons
considering it has been slated since season 3 for
termination. Thanks to the fans, it was kept around but
one still must wonder how much longer. We are in
Season 4 and a 5 is signed off on but a storm
approaches.
In addition to the syndication, it has been a great
opportunity for the cream of the crop. Starring roles for
Jensen Ackels in the 2005 film Devour and last years
hit My Bloody Valentine in 3D while Jared Padalecki
has racked up 3 with 2005's House of Wax & Cry Wolf
and last years smash hit remake of Friday the 13TH.
He also appeared in the 2007 film House of Fears as
J.P. but was not credited for the role. In addition to the
success of 2009 for the Supernatural family, executive
producer McG knocked our lights out with
Terminator:Salvation - sending a message to the
industry that a new visionary director is ready for the
big screen. And with talks underway for T5 and a
remake of the Monster Squad this camp is delighted.
With all the success one important piece seems to be
left out in the cold, my fellow Toledo native Eric Kripke.
It should be no surprise that he has stepped down
although it is being confirmed a Season 6 has been
picked up but OSH can assure you that he will stay on
as an executive producer and Sera Gamble will still
be there to keep it from "falling down." And with Eric
still contributing in a lesser role there is the opportunity
to branch out and become the next cream to rise.
OSH does know more in regards to his next project
but we swore to keep it in house - respectfully.
As with many great shows there is a bitter pill to
swallow; it will all come to an end eventually. The
question is when and how. But thanks to syndicated
television, Supernatural will live on in the hearts of
millions for decades to come.
* Supernatural airs Thursday's @ 9PM on UPN and
weekdays @ 10AM on TNT.

We've known Franklin Castle to be the most
haunted house in Ohio. And now it is official, at
least from MSBC's standpoint, as Franklin Castle
was named in it's Top 10 Haunted Houses in
America! Joining some great company like the
old Lizzie Borden Home!
The 9,000 square foot castle on Franklin Avenue
located on the city's west side was built in 1864,
by German born banker; Hannes Tiedemann.
He spared no expense building the 28 room, 80
window castle with ballroom, spiral staircases
and secret passages included! Spooky.
There have been several mysterious deaths in
the home over the years. And there have been
numerous sightings and sounds of ghosts.
Footsteps, babies crying and doors slamming
have been heard.
"Finally, a haunted home that really looks
haunted. Complete with a tower, turrets,
balconies, stone outcroppings, gargoyles,
wrought-iron fixtures and fences, this imposing,
Gothic-style Franklin Castle is said to be Ohio's
most haunted home. It was built in 1860 for
Hannes Tiedemann, an immigrant from
Germany who became a wholesale grocer-
turned-banker. Depending on who you believe,
Tiedemann was either an evil tyrant who had a
hand in mysterious deaths that occurred in the
home between 1865-1895 — including the
deaths of three babies — or he was a decent and
hard-working man, but faced unfortunate
circumstances. There have been many owners
of the home including a German singing society
and a church group."
Presently, it is owned by an Internet
businesswoman who wanted to renovate the
home, turn it into a B&B and hold "haunted
mystery weekends" — but a fire in 1999 derailed
her plans. It is rumored that Franklin Castle will
be listed soon. In the market for a haunted
house? Amenities include sounds of footsteps,
babies crying, and doors slamming … and no
one's there. How many agents dare to appear
for this broker's open house?

Paranormal 2 Breaks $42 Million!
|
Are you an Independent Horror Filmmaker with a
story to tell or film that you are working on? Have a
suggestion for future articles? Just "Contact Us" - Staff
From nowhere, the under $11,000 phenomenon that
was Paranormal Activity took theaters by storm this
time last year. Not since the Blair Witch Project (1999)
has an Independent film grossed more or drew in
more audiences than Hollywood's "Big Boys".
Grossing over $107,000,000 by January of 2010, it
was priority for a sequel release later that year.
It all started with a young, middle class couple that
moves into a suburban "starter" tract house. They
become increasingly disturbed by a presence that
may or may not be somehow demonic but is certainly
most active in the middle of the night. Especially when
they sleep. Or try to. And the story ends as most of you
know, with a possessed Katie killing her love Micah.
Then we see her shoot to death by the police and in
an alternative ending her just disappear. So many
questions left unanswered such as what was it? Why
did it choose Katie? What was the purpose of it all?
Damnit, Inquiring minds want to know!
In the much beefed sequel, with an estimated $2.5
million dollar budget, Paramount Pictures tries to
answer these questions and unravel the mystery of the
"paranormal activity" backstory.

In this "update" of the story we go back before the days
of and what happens after the first Paranormal Activity.
It seems that Katie has a sister, Kristi Rey, if you didn't
pay attention in the first film, who has just given birth a
bouncing baby boy named Hunter. Kristi's husband,
Dan and her step-daughter Ali live just around the
block from Katie & Micah. Also they have a family dog,
Abby and housekeeper named Martine - who just
happens to know a little bit about the occult.
As the film unravels we soon discover something
"unwanted" is stalking them; the pool cleaner is
outside the pool every morning and Martine senses
something is not right. In her panic to protect the
family she is dismissed for performing an act of
Santaria leaving Ali to babysit. While her parents are
away a mysterious sound and wide open door awake
Ali who goes outside to investigate. The door slams
behind her leaving Hunter all alone! When her parents
arrive home to find Ali not there panic ensues and
everyone starts to feel the "unwanted" presence in the
home. Dan, who is the most unconvinced turns to
Martine for help after Abby is thrown across the room
and Kristi Rey begins to change.
Then the story comes out that Kristi & Katie's
grandmother had made a deal with the devil for
wealth in exchange for the family's next born male; a
male that just happens to be Hunter.
Continued on the right.

(Cont)
Spoiler Alert - It is Dan who agrees to allow
Martine to transfer the demonic possession to
Katie in order to save his wife and son. A
deccission he soon will realize can change
nothing. In the final minutes of the film you will
experience one of the most shocking
paranormal endings ever in film. One of the
most realistic and believable paranormal films
I've ever seen.

It will be history; October 29TH the final story in the
Saw franchise hits theaters in none other than 3D! Is it
me or does it seem like every film coming out is in
3D? What's next, "LIVE-ACTION" films performed on
stages? Seriously, 3D is a great gimmick but does it
really need to replace what cinema has stood for for
the last 70 plus years? DO we crave it that bad that
everything we see has to be in 3D? Do you really want
to see your Aunt Edna bending over in 3D? Ew, went
to a bad place there which brings me back to my rant.
Do we really need to see the horrific and grotesque
devices of Jigsaw in 3D? I mean it's cool and all but
somehow I just don't see jumping because
sawblades are shooting at me during the movie. If
anything I think that is what decreased my enjoyment
of the last film in this fantastic franchise. They finally
have a great story to close it all out but have to dummy
it up because some executive somewhere feels the
need to keep up with the Joneses?
Horror films are to scare us, make it hard to sleep and
gross us out. There is no "realistic" substitution for that
other than living that story IN reality. Stand in line to
pay to get killed in a cool way? No I don't think so.
Saw: The Final Chapter in 3D is another disrespectful
reality to the fans who loved it so much.
Classic Horror Homage, starring Ron Chaney, House of the Wolf Man to DVD!
|
Story by: Doc Stein
With Joe Johnston's remake of The Wolfman, I expected rich, gothic horror and instead got an "In your
face" update of a monster mash with a comic book action movie feel. I didn't hate it outright, but I forgot the
film's details the very second I stood up from my cushy theater seat. Maybe House of the Wolf Man will
deliver what "Old School" monster fans are looking for?
The black and white indie homage, from writer-director Eban McGarr and nephew of the late, great Lon
Chaney Jr. are finally seeing the light of day on DVD, September 28. McGarr has created an intentional
throwback to the Universal Monster series, crafting House of the Wolf Man as an unofficial sequel following
the studio's House of Frankenstein and House of Dracula. The film re-unites Dracula, Frankenstein's
monster and the Wolf Man in a tale about a spooky old castle inherited by new unsuspecting owners.
Will it deliver where The Wolfman failed? We'll all find out very soon...
More to come......

"Trick-or-treating" is a modern tradition that probably finds it's roots in the early All Souls' Day parades in
England. During the festivities, poor citizens would beg for food and families would give them pastries
called "soul cakes" in return for their promise to pray for the family's dead relatives. The distribution of soul
cakes was encouraged by the church as a way to replace the ancient practice of leaving food and wine for
roaming spirits. The practice, which was referred to as "going a-souling" was eventually taken up by
children who would visit the houses in their neighborhood and be given ale, food, and money.
To pagans the world over, November 1st, still marks the beginning of the New Year. To Witches and
Pagans, Samhain is the Festival of the Dead, and for many, it is the most important Sabbat (Holiday) of the
year. Although the Feast of the Dead forms a major part of most Pagan celebrations on this eve, and at
Samhain voluntary communications are expected and hoped for. The departed are never harassed, and
their presence is never commanded. The spirits of the dead are, however, ritually invited to attend the
Sabbat and to be present within the Circle.
